Time spent in nature nurtures our wellbeing. Dr. Tamara Yakaboski – whose work focuses on helping teams and individuals build cultures of care for greater wellbeing -- shares how we can build this connection in our own life. Her work is centered on what she calls embodied action – using mind-body-spirit practices to build community and resiliency in the face of climate change. That might mean walking barefoot on ground, listening to the sounds of birds, and other practices that bring us back into connection with the outdoors and our own living experiences. In this episode, she shares how we can use these practices to lower stress and combat climate anxiety. And how this can lead us to find a sense of connection to others and hope for the future.

The most recognized male figure skating star in the world, Scott Hamilton has won 70 titles, awards and honors including an Emmy Award nomination, induction into the United States Olympic Hall of Fame and a privileged member of the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
In 1984, Scott captured the attention of the world with his Olympic Gold medal performances in Saravejo and since has shared his love and enthusiasm for the sport as a analyst/commentator, performer, producer and best-selling author (Finish First: Winning Changes Everything, 2018; The Great Eight, 2009; Landing It, 1999). He further inspires others as a speaker, humanitarian, and as a cancer and pituitary brain tumor survivor.
After losing his mother to cancer, then becoming survivor himself, Scott turned activist, launching the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation (Cancer Alliance for Research, Education and Survivorship). He founded several education and survivorship programs including Chemocare.com and the 4th Angel Mentoring Program. Events such as Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer and An Evening with Scott Hamilton & Friends galas fund research into treatments that treat the cancer and spare the patient harm.
Scott recently launched Live Your Days – a call to being present and not let day after day pass, just going through the checklist of life. It is about putting down your phone to enjoy the people and moments that you are given, because we don’t control the number of days we have on this earth, we only control what we do with them. The online platform includes a weekly podcast interview, 30-day life challenges with easy to implement tips and merchandise, with proceeds benefiting the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation.
He is also the founder of the Scott Hamilton Skating Academy at the Ford Ice Centers in Antioch, TN and Bellevue, TN, where he may frequently be found coaching Learn to Skate students and sharing his love of skating.

She taught core courses for Kinesiology majors that prepared students for leadership roles in fitness. Debra hosts Flipping 50 TV and the Flipping 50 podcast, an AARP top podcast for 50+.
Debra is a TedX speaker and is a best-selling author of 5 books. She is a certified by the American Council on Exercise, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Debra has presented for the International Council On Active Aging, Athletic Business Conference, MedFit and FitnessFest for multiple years. She was honored as selection committee member for Personal Trainer of the Year award for IDEA, and a Subject Matter Expert and item writer for ACE’s Medical Exercise Specialist exam. When she is not presenting, she makes a point of attending to listen to her peer colleagues and in her words “is a life-long student”.

You may have heard of the remarkable story of Dick and Rick Hoyt, better known as “Team Hoyt.”
In this episode of To Your Health, Rick will join us and communicate through his computer to tell us about his love of fitness, overcoming obstacles, and his book “One Letter at a Time.” This book was published to not only share Rick’s voice, but dozens of personal accounts of individuals whose lives were positively impacted by Team Hoyt.
Their motto is “Yes You Can” to promote the message that you can do anything you set your mind to for individuals with or without disability. For the Hoyts, after decades of being told “No you can’t” they wanted to send a different message for others to hear. The Hoyt’s both have received several awards for their efforts to bring the issues of the disabled into the nation’s conscience. These include the induction into the Ironman Hall of Fame; the “Living Legends” award from the Sports Museum of New England; a Certificate of Achievement from the President Council on Sports and Fitness; the Champion Sports Award from the Washington D.C.-based Lombardi Foundation and many others.

Stress is something we all experience at some point in our life. Having tools to manage it can not only bring more ease into our daily life, it can also have a measurable impact on our physical and mental health. In this episode, Beth and Jennifer talk with Guy Douglas about the power of sound meditation to alleviate stress, particularly after the pandemic. Sound meditation is very accessible, even if you’re not a meditator or can’t quiet your mind or don’t know or care what a chakra is. Guy, aka the Gong Guy, is a lifelong musician who began working with gongs and other sound healing instruments to support stress relief and healing in the early 2000s. He plays sound meditations at yoga studios, California beaches, churches and other locations throughout California as well as on the Today Show. He co-founded the Sound Bath Meditation app during the pandemic. In this episode, Guy explains how sound meditation is different from listening to other types of music in the way it is played and its affect on our nervous system, which helps to quiet the mind. At the end of the episode, you’ll get to experience a short sound meditation.
